May 5, 2023

Bentworth Parents,
On May 4, 2023, your children will bring their Chromebook home. The Chromebook will be sent home as we will have a modified flexible instruction day on Friday, May 5, 2023. This type of day is sometimes needed when our predicted absences exceed our ability to safely cover classes. This type of day is typically called in an emergency situation with little or no notice. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately that is not how families operate. Our administrators review our absence system on a daily basis. Based on absences already scheduled for May 5, 2023, we believe this to be the best course of action for our students and families.

HOWEVER, this will provide us time to PRACTICE!!

WHAT is a modified flexible instruction day you ask?

WHY would we do such a thing?

Please allow me to share:
On this day your child will learn online from home and their teachers will be teaching them from their classrooms.
We are doing this so we can ensure we are prepared for such a day when we need it on a moment's notice. (We can use these days for weather related situations such as snow, wind, flooding, etc. We may also use this type of day if there is a loss of power.)

As the emergency broadcast system always said...this is a drill.

Prior to this day, the teachers will practice with your child to ensure they have an understanding of how the day will progress.

********** Please know for those students participating in Grand March there will be transportation to and from school in the morning. ************ Also, students that participate in the CTC or any other assessments, like the APUSH exam will have transportation to and from the high school at their regular morning time. They will then be transported home following the test.*********

Please see below for information regarding FID.
**** IF **** we need to cancel school for any number of reasons we may use something called a "flexible instruction day" (FID). This is a process that provides a school district a limited number of school days that we will not have to make up at the end of the year or during a scheduled break. The requirements for this type of day are a little different than what we have done in the past for remote learning.

Your child will not need to be online the entire school day. YEA!!!!!!!

They will need to go to their Google classroom(s) by 11:00, pick up their assignments and complete them at their own pace throughout the day.

The teachers will be available during the typical school hours to answer questions, respond to emails, provide assistance, etc.

The teachers will have assignments uploaded to their Google classroom by 10:00 A.M. Please feel free to email your teacher with any questions.

The school counselors and social workers will make contact with all of the students they typically are scheduled to see on the given day and assist any teacher with reaching students.

Bentworth School District will implement the following procedure during the flexible instruction day (FID):
On a FID the teacher will upload assignments to their Google classroom by 10:00 A.M.

If a student forgets their Chromebook they may sign in using a personal device.

All students need to sign in by 11:00 A.M. and pick up their assignments.

Students may be able to access the internet through the local library, local restaurants or the district services through the parking lot. (Internet services typically reach into the parking lots of these locations.)

****** Upon return to school, all assignments are due. ****** If assignments are turned in the student will be recorded as present for the FID, if the assignment is not turned in the student will be recorded as absent for the FID.

******I am sure we will learn from this practice.

This is PRACTICE!!

Thank you
