Good evening,

The last twenty-four hours have been a flurry of information.  Please know that as initially reported on the Bentworth Facebook page, the District became aware of a Snapchat discussion in which it was reported a student indicated it would be unsafe to attend the high school on Monday.  These reports were made through third or multiple hand accounts.  Due to the concerns and need to investigate, the parent was contacted, and it was agreed their child would not attend today.  Again, at no time did we have any first hand accounting of the reported threat.  Throughout the night and into the day, we have been in constant communication with local and state police along with Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Washington County Public Safety as they investigated the incident.  Please know as of 1:00 today, the state police have indicated the student does not have an active Snapchat account.

Tomorrow the district will continue to follow all safety protocols.  The local police and sheriff’s department are scheduled to be on site.  This presence is precautionary and an effort to facilitate our students feeling safe and secure in the school environment.  We will continue to work alongside all authorities to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students. Please know your child’s safety is our most important priority.
